- - - About This Shirt: Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin (1949 - ) has been the incumbent president of the Russian Federation since 2000. Putin was born in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) and holds a law degree from Leningrad State University, a PhD in economics and is a black belt in Judo. He previously served as prime minister and director of the Federal Security Service. Earlier in his career, Putin served in Germany with the KGB. He has developed a dual reputation as a quiet but effective operator and a thug. Since becoming president, Putin has pushed forward a multi-pronged agenda of economic growth, political repression, and media censorship. The influx of foreign capital into Russia has climbed exponentially as have returns on investments since 2000. Meanwhile, scores of his political opponents, journalists and advocates of transparency in government have been poisoned and continue turning up dead. Putin invited western business leaders to an economic summit in St. Petersburg in the summer of 2005 where he met Robert Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots, and D-Blocked his 4.94-carat, diamond-encrusted 2005 Super Bowl ring. This further solidifies his streetcred and reputation as a thoroughbred thug.
